Volgens de overlevering was het een voormalig adelshuis.\"\r\n\"In 1511 en 1543 wordt Oedsma sate en huis beschreven als goed ten zuiden van de Gauw en ten oosten van 6 pondemaat van de vicarie. Dit klopt met de localisatie volgens de floreencohieren. In 1640 werd Groot Oetsma nog door de eigenaar Epe Taeckles bewoond. In 1721 werd het - inmiddels een pachtboerderij - door de koopman Fedde Wibes Buma aangekocht. Daarbij werd tevens het zwanenrecht gekocht van den opvaart tot de Groenedyk, ten oosten aan Sierksloot, ten westen aan Sytze Watzes sloot. Waarschijnlijk in 1672 werd dit recht ook in een muuranker verbeeld.Een stins is van Oetsma niet bekend. Wel bleek bij de verbouw in 1904 dat het muurwerk deels uit \"âlde friezen\" bestond.\"",
