In 1455 waren Gala Donterp en zijn broer Rypper getuige bij het testament van Feddrick Hummama te Dronrijp.In 1468 wordt Gale als één van de dorpshoofdelingen van Tzum genoemd; niet zo vreemd als we bedenken dat de kerk van Spannum een dochter van die van het naburige Tzum was. Gale Doniaterp was ook grietman van Hennaarderadeel. In de late 15de eeuw verlegde de familie haar woonplaats naar Leeuwarden, waar de Doniaterps in het stadsbestuur kwamen. In verschillende oudfriese oorkonden komen transacties tussen en naburige eigendomsrechten van de erven Doniaterp en de familie Roorda voor.Aan het begin van de 16de eeuw waren de laatsten eigenaars van Doniaterp. Sybrandt van Roorda vermaakte in zijn testament van 1550 't huys en 't goedt genoempt Doenterp, gelegen to Spannum, waarop hij zelf woonde, aan zijn zoon George. Ook het roerende goed, de plicht tot gastvrijheid voor verwanten en de functie van het huis als archiefbewaarplaats voor de familie noemde hij daarin.\"",
