Buwema, Buwma of Buama, het is allemaal hetzelfde als Buma, maar het is de vraag of Buma uit een stins ontstaan is. Er is bij beide states geen enkele aanwijzing voor die oorsprong terug te vinden. De \"Tegenwoordige staat van Friesland\" vermeldt ze als ‘eigenerfde staten’.\r\n\r\nOp de kaarten van Schotanus en Eekhoff staat Buma aangegeven ten noorden van de oude zeedijk, dus ‘buitendijks’. Als er een Buma stins is geweest, zal die ongetwijfeld aan de overkant van de dijk gezocht moeten worden.
