    "AARD_OMSCHR" : "In de veengebieden is een opvallende structuur, gevormd door strakke evenwijdig lopende lijnen in de vaarwegen, te herkennen, het ‘wijkenpatroon’. Dit patroon bestaat uit meestal smalle vaarten. Ze had-den een dubbele functie, namelijk enerzijds de afwatering van het water uit de veenpakketten, zodat daaruit de turf kon worden gewonnen, en anderzijds de afvoer van de gestoken turf naar de nabijgele-gen vaarwegen, meestal de ‘Compagnonsvaarten’, waarna de turf via de routes van het vaarwegen-stelsel naar de afnemers werd vervoerd.",
